At the celebrations to mark the founding of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army on 16 May, Southern Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit told supporters that his fledgling government had persuaded the LRA to start talking. He announced that his Vice-President, Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, had met LRA chief Joseph Kony - probably Africa's most reclusive rebel.
