Undue diligence in the timber sector

Malaysian timber conglomerate Samling, which faces accusations of illegal logging, is at the centre of a storm over the bidding by foreign companies for 25-year contracts in Liberia's timber sector. The row follows the leaking of a Liberian government-commissioned assessment of the companies bidding for the logging work that raises questions about the companies' suitability and the management of the government's Forest Development Authority (FDA).
