Two former presidents face each other again

Two failed ex-presidents will compete in the second round of the presidential election, on 29 December. In the first round on 3 November, only 58 per cent of the electors voted. Nine senior politicians are calling for even more abstentions in the second round. They do not like the choice between the first-round front-runners, Admiral Didier Ratsiraka and Professor Albert Zafy, who were rivals at the last presidential election in 1993. Zafy won that one. Now it looks as if it might be Ratsiraka's turn again.
