Separating mosque and state

Veteran Islamist leader Rachid Ghannouchi has surprised many by announcing that, henceforth, his Hizb Ennahda would separate politics from religious work. It would operate as a 'democratic and civil' party, 'keeping politics out of the mosque', he claimed.
