Political football over the ref

Unrest and violence over reform of the electoral commission is keeping divisions deep and tensions high

Intense political manoeuvring and urban unrest are accelerating over whether and how the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should be reformed before the general elections, scheduled for August 2017. The issue is not narrow and technical: it has far-reaching implications for the credibility of the polls, the growing polarisation of the main political parties and the possibility of future electoral violence.
