'Dirty tricks' target Cyril

The Deputy President sees the hand of his boss in the hack of his email account and smears on his ANC leadership bid 

The increasingly hotly contested battle for the leadership of the African National Congress got a little dirtier when Cyril Ramaphosa, Deputy President of the ruling party, was targeted by an attempted smear using emails supposedly leaked or hacked from his personal account. Allegations that he had conducted a series of extra-marital affairs, including with students he is said to be supporting financially, were published in the Sunday Independent, and were widely circulated on social media before publication on 3 September. The newspaper is owned by the Zuma-supporting business magnate Iqbal Survé .
