Addis calling

The race is on to snap up the two new telecom licences Ethiopia plans to award by the end of March. Kenyan SafariCom is teaming up with parent group Vodacom, while other multinational mobile companies are preparing lobbying trips to Addis Ababa. The bids are likely to cluster around US$1 billion per licence, while the same again will be needed for further investment by the winner.
