Morocco

King takes charge

In the first week of Morocco's lockdown, King Mohammed VI ordered a show of force his late father King Hassan II would have approved, calling troops and tanks onto the streets of major cities. The Palace, rather than Prime Minister Saad Eddine el Othmani, is running the coronavirus strategy. The government is following M6's orders. Moroccans have got the message, with 36 million non-essential workers staying at home under the state of medical emergency.
