Junta names front-man

The junta has named the 70-year-old former defence minister and retired officer Bah N'Daw as transitional president, thus testing to the limit the absolute insistence of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) that a civilian take the role. The junta's colonels will, however, still have a big say in the composition of the interim government after the new head of state's 25 September swearing in.
