Signing a one-party state into electoral law

Opposition activists claim that the new electoral act, hurriedly signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is aimed at disqualifying all the substantive opposition from contesting in national elections next January and that it will retain a margin of manoeuvre for its loyalists to declare fraudulent results. Many diaspora Nigerians based in Britain were organising protests arguing that Tinubu’s state visit was rewarding electoral malpractice.
