Passing the Constitutional Amendment Bill to extend his term (CAB3) has been exceptionally costly for President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa whose popular support has never matched that of his predecessor Robert Mugabe. His campaign to win enough votes in parliament, and among traditional leaders and other influential groups was bankrolled by a cabal of wealthy supporters who have amassed fortunes through privileged access to state resources and public contracts.
