Beko Ransome-Kuti's death robs Africa of one of its bravest freedom fighters

Opposition in Africa, and particularly Nigeria, is a dangerous business. It requires courage, determination and integrity; even then there is no guarantee of success. Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti had all of these in abundance. Beko won major battles in his campaign to release many of the estimated 60,000 people held without charge in Nigeria's gaols, as well as pressing governments to spend more on healthcare and improve working conditions for doctors and nurses.
