Kivu clashes ahead

Fears are growing of a confrontation between the forces of General Laurent Nkunda and the government's Forces Armées Congolaises in North Kivu Province next month. We hear that the United Nations' Mission des Nations Unies en République Démocratique du Congo has despatched about 800 Uruguayan peacekeepers to the region but their intervention may not make much difference if previous experience is a guide.
