Judges of the Constitutional Court

Chief Justice Pius Langa: The head of the Constitutional Court and of the Judicial Commission from rural Limpopo Province worked as a labourer in a shirt factory and studied law by correspondence through the University of South Africa. He defended opponents of apartheid and was a leading figure in the United Democratic Front, the African National Congress's internal wing. As Chief Justice since 2005 he has stoutly defended the constitution and its values, standing up for the media, freedom of expression and the right of individual dissent.
