Economy thrives, BEE slows

Policies favouring foreign investment are set to prevail over those who want more of the benefits of growth to flow to black citizens

Unreconciled opponents of Prime Minister Hage Geingob, the expected heir to the presidency, resent their marginalisation within the ever-governing SWAPO party. The critics, many of them opposed to the neo-liberal government policies and anxious for Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) to accelerate, increased their complaints during May. A whispering campaign against Geingob crept into local newspapers but rumours of death threats were dismissed by police.
