Political plane crash

he 12 February plane crash which killed First Vice-President Major General El Zubeir Mohamed Salih is one of the biggest blows to the National Islamic Front since it seized power in the 1989 coup. The old Antonov-32 crashed, apparently accidentally, in Riek Machar’s Upper Nile stronghold, Nasir, and also killed one of Khartoum’s key southern allies, Arok Thuon Arok, and perhaps 26 others. This deprived Khartoum of a trusted NIF army officer and undermined its divide-to-rule southern policy.
