Another battle between reformers and traditionalists looms (AC Vol 37 No 13), with trades unions threatening a general strike for 3 February. They are pushing 27 demands, mostimportantly the unbanning of political parties and decreased powers for King Mswati III. Last year, the Swaziland Federation of Trade Unions called off its strike after Mswati threatened to mobilise his traditional warriors, (Emabutfo). Before that, the economy had been brought to a standstill, utilities had been sabotaged and a girl was killed.
