Tunisia

Ben Ali for a fourth

Africa's 'change the constitution' movement has now crept north to Tunisia, where the ruling Rassemblement Constitutionnel Démocratique wants to persuade' President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali to stand for re-election in 2004. That would entail a constitutional change: in 1994, Ben Ali proposed that presidents should serve no more than two five-year terms.
