Stuck in the sand

President Blaise Compaoré has changed his government but not his problems

On 6 November, a new prime minister, Ernest Yonli, took over from the respected but hamstrung technocrat Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo. His first big difficulty was to find enough qualified people to fill the key ministries. There was some surprise that Yonli got the job, rather than Maurice Mélégué Traoré, President of the Chambre des Représentants, whose reputation has survived the past two bad years.
