Gadaffi's desperate bid

The lawyers for the late dictator's son are trying to persuade the ICC to drop its case against him

International lawyers for Seif el Islam Gadaffi, son of the late dictator Moammar el Gadaffi, have made a U-turn in their defence strategy at the International Criminal Court and will ask judges to declare the case inadmissible. One of Libya's myriad militias, the Zintan Military Council, based in the mountain town some 180 kilometres south-west of Tripoli, has held him ever since it captured him while he was attempting to flee the country in 2011, shortly after his father was killed. The new defence team headed by Khaled Zaidi hopes, we hear, that once ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has dropped the case, Gadaffi would attempt to invoke a Libyan amnesty law and be set free.
