Saudi wants one too

Saudi Arabia looks certain to join the growing band of nations with military bases in Djibouti, Africa Confidential can reveal. On 12 July, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces Lieutenant-General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, delivered a message to President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh from Saudi Defence Minister, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, concerning a defence and security partnership between the two countries. A base is almost certainly part of the deal. Prince Mohammed is leading the Saudi and other forces fighting the Houthi militias and their allies in Yemen.
