With an execrable sense of timing, the African Development Bank, the continent's biggest financial institution, is consumed by a politicised battle over the future of its President, Adesina Akinwumi, and his governing style. In media interviews in early April to announce a US$10 billion fund to help African economies manage the coronavirus pandemic, Adesina was quizzed about complaints on alleged favouritism in recruitment and tolerating fraudulent procurement.
