Prime Minister Abiy's plan for a government complex overlooking Addis Ababa could cost over $10 billion even as the economy limps along

When Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power five years ago, he said his mother had prophesied that he would be the seventh king of Ethiopia. Many were puzzled by this claim. Haile Selassie I was Ethiopia's 225th and last emperor, serving from 1930 until he was overthrown in a putsch in 1974, in which Mengistu Haile Mariam played a leading role. Haile Selassie I traced his line back to Menelik I, who claimed to be the child of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
