The prize goes to Chapo

The ruling Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Frelimo) party has finally chosen its presidential candidate for October's general election. In a process which saw the party's politburo wait until the last moment to produce a shortlist, then three days of internal wrangling, the party's Central Committee voted in Governor Daniel Chapo on 5 May. At 47, Chapo is Frelimo's youngest ever candidate, and has been Governor of Inhambane Province since 2016.
