Facing Mount Kenya

At the apex of President Mwai Kibaki's coalition government, a Kikuyu cabal known as 'the Mount Kenya mafia' is tightening its grip. The group includes several former firebrands of Kenya's pro-democracy movement who have quickly exchanged the idealism of opposition for the fleshpots of power. Some draw parallels between Mount Kenya and first President Jomo Kenyatta's inner circle with its combination of powerful political and economic influence.
