Competing on competence

The opposition struggles to persuade voters that it could handle the economy, but the administration is floundering too

With just weeks to go until presidential elections on 7 December National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, former president John Dramani Mahama, is still struggling to alter public perceptions that the New Patriotic Party government of Nana Akufo-Addo has demonstrated greater competence on the economy and is less tarnished by corruption scandals than his 2013-16 administration. Or to convincingly portray Akufo-Addo's government as incompetent in its handling of coronavirus, whether from a public health or economic perspective.
