Africa’s electric vehicles speed up

The baton as Africa’s leading carmaker has passed to Morocco, which produced over a million vehicles last year, overtaking South Africa. South Africa made 554,613 vehicles between January and November – a strong annual rise – but losing top-dog status is a symbolic blow. Analysts say the gap will widen because Rabat moved far faster into the electric-vehicle market and benefits from its proximity to Europe.
