The ODM’s oligarchs are determined to build a coalition with President Ruto – but the party’s rebels are gathering support

On 10 March, President William Ruto fired the starter’s gun on coalition talks with the Orange Democratic Movement in the traditional Kenyan way – by setting up a committee. The eight-member team, made up of four ODM lawmakers and four from Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has been tasked with drafting an arrangement that would set the legislative agenda for the rest of this parliament and for Ruto’s second term.
