The Ebola bonanza

Freetown's redoubtable Auditor General, Lara Taylor-Pearce, has struck again, publishing a damning report on the misuse of public funds between May, when the Ebola epidemic broke out, and October. Her audit found failure to follow procedures, absence of documentation and, on procurement, 'a complete disregard for the law'. It concentrated on the controversy-dogged Health and Sanitation Ministry and the National Ebola Response Centre and said: 'Although the current Ebola Virus Disease outbreak could not have been predicted, the weaknesses exposed in the healthcare system have been consistently reported on in our audit reports over the years'.
