As UN officials were preparing to release their Independent Fact-Finding Mission’s report on 3 September with more damning reports of the United Arab Emirates arming of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), regional editors of the New York Times and Washington Post received a couple of hefty dossiers from a ‘Middle Eastern intelligence agency’. The ‘agency’ is widely thought to be Israel’s Mossad but the information was sent to the newspapers on the basis that the source would remain confidential.
