Guns for fertiliser

The suspension of duties on phosphate fertiliser imported from Morocco by US President Donald Trump’s administration is the latest in a series of lucrative quid pro quos between Washington and Rabat. The White House announced on 1 July that it had declared an ‘emergency’ on fertiliser supplies to US farmers and that tariffs on Moroccan fertiliser would be lifted for eight months or until Trump ends the ‘emergency’.
