Mothballed MiGs

Ethiopia has been trying for some time to refurbish and upgrade the MiGs it inherited from Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam’s regime. The planes were properly ‘mothballed’ after Meles Zenawi took over and have been well looked after. For two years, discussions continued with companies including stateowned Israeli Air Industries and private Elbit Systems of Israel but they stalled over the price for upgrading 30 MiG-21s and 20 MiG-23s.
