Jean Kaseya: Ebola crisis manager

‘We are [still] building the foundations for the next pandemic,’ said Dr Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2024, when African countries were still struggling to obtain mpox vaccines promised by donor states a year after the virus had swept through parts of eastern Congo-Kinshasa before spreading across the continent. Two years on, officials in Congo-K, Africa CDC and World Health Organization (WHO) are playing catch-up to contain a deadly outbreak of the Ebola virus.
