The Haftar-Hemeti warlord connection catches up with Washington

As US envoy Boulos talks up a Libyan unity plan, investigators have traced arms supplies linking Haftar’s fiefdom with the RSF militia

A compelling new investigation into how fighters loyal to eastern-based warlord Khalifa Haftar have trained fighters from Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is complicating a new US push to reunify Libya’s divided political and military institutions. The pressure ratcheted up on 29 June, when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Khalifa Haftar’s son, Saddam Haftar, in Washington DC to discuss plans to unify Libya’s military, economic and political bodies.
