The right not to return

Police forces across the European Union now have sweeping new powers to detain and deport migrants under a new ‘returns’ regulation in effect since 1 July. But that is not enough for the 19 EU leaders backing plans to push asylum processing offshore by creating ‘return hubs’ abroad for people whose applications for international protection have been rejected.
