A UN lifer and a political diplomat take top roles

Facing his last three months as United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres has overhauled two of the UN’s top Africa jobs. First to take office was Nigerian diplomat Ahunna Eziakonwa, appointed Assistant Secretary-General and UN Special Advisor for Africa. An economist by training, Eziakonwa, whose mandate began in August, has spent nearly three decades in the UN, most recently as Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa at the UN Development Programme.
