The Americans are buying

Central Intelligence Agency veterans and Green Berets are buying Congolese assets under a pact with Washington – a logic that also explains why the United States is unlikely to challenge President Félix Tshisekedi’s constitutional manoeuvres. On 30 March, India’s Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd acquired 49% of Chemaf Group. In February, Virtus Minerals, an American company, had previously bought the remaining 51%, with the Congolese government approving the acquisition on 17 March.
