Gao Jianke revealed in late January that Wesizwe Platinum had received a US$650 million loan from the China Development Bank for the expansion of the Bakubung mining project, near Rustenburg, 130 kilometres from Johannesburg. Growing demand for platinum and diminishing production in South Africa, home to one of the world’s largest reserves of platinum, make the CDB’s loan a good bet. Wesizwe Platinum also holds a 26% share in Platinum Group Metal’s Maseve mine.
