Crime still pays

Surprisingly strong criticism has been poured on the annual report of Attorney General Beatriz Buchili, even by the state news agency, Agência de Informação de Moçambique. Last week, Buchili told Parliament the overall crime rate had risen by over 10%, with murder rising 12% to 1,223 deaths. Although well below the murder rate in neighbouring South Africa, the figures cause great alarm. Many assassinations are by paid killers. AIM commented that despite many statistics, the report mentioned no names and was 'very disappointing'.
