War mars independence day

Independence anniversary celebrations on 9 July were a far cry from the mass joy when the country separated from Sudan in 2011. The civil war, in which over 50,000 people have been killed and 1.5 million chased from their homes since December 2013, rumbles on. Peace talks are deadlocked; neither government nor rebels can deliver a knockout blow.
