Caution, democrats at work

Everyone is quarrelling healthily ahead of the elections and the result is still open

The race to the national elections on 7 December is getting closer and noisier. Despite the governing New Patriotic Party's mixed record on the economy, it remains a narrow favourite to win both the presidency and a parliamentary majority. Yet the National Democratic Congress could still spring surprises, perhaps helped by the small parties which held the balance of power after the 2000 elections. The 30 new constituencies created for these elections are expected to split more or less evenly between NPP and NDC.
