The struggle for control of the opposition MDC is ramping up as ZANU-PF uses divide and rule to weaken its strongest foe

In-fighting for control of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change is playing into the hands of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union–Patriotic Front, which hopes to gain international legitimacy by co-opting the weaker faction into a 'government of national unity'. The main opposition MDC-Alliance has been subject to lawsuits and parliamentary actions aimed at helping Thokozani Khupe, leader of the rump MDC-Tsvangirai (MDC-T), win title to the whole party and its property.
