Court out of cash

Hamstrung by its member countries refusing to pay their annual contributions, the East African Community is perennially short of cash. On 29 May, the bureau of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) announced that many of the bloc’s institutions would effectively be shut down because of a lack of funding. Two days earlier, the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) stated that it had been forced to cancel its May and June sessions.
