Angola

A twist in the Thales

French defence company Thales has won US$150 million of business in Angola in partnership with Manuel Vicente, Chairman and Chief Executive of state oil company Sonangol, and Miguel da Costa, Angola's Ambassador in Paris. Angolan law bars the manager of a public company from 'other duties that involve the representation of private interests, of self or on behalf of others in the management of any other company'. The Law on the Crimes Committed by High Office Holders forbids government officials to profit from state business contracts. Both are frequently violated.
