Succession discussions

Taboo for years, the question of who will succeed President José Eduardo dos Santos has finally come into the open. The Spokesman for the ruling Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA), Rui Falcão Pinto de Andrade, said this had been under discussion for ‘many years’ but merely added that the candidate would be ‘suitably qualified’ with the ‘ability to lead’ and ‘perfect morals and ethics’.
