Tender mercies

Insisting that major infrastructure contracts go to competitive tender has got Transport and Communications Minister Paulo Zucula the sack, say senior political sources. President Armando Guebuza moved him on 20 September, ostensibly because public transport in Maputo and Matola is in disarray and there is anger that the national airline, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, is still forbidden to fly into the European Union.
