The MIGs of Mwanza

Tanzania has sent home the North Koreans who were supposed to be restoring some of the Tanzanian People’s Defence Force’s Soviet-era military equipment following secret protests by the United States, we hear. The government has consistently denied any military links to the Pyongyang regime, forbidden to all United Nations members. The Chief of Defence Forces, General Davis Mwamunyange, dismissed an Africa Confidential report last August that North Korean technicians were helping refurbish old fighter-jets at Mwanza and repairing military radar (AC Vol 54 No 16).
