Amnesty anomalies

As social media resonated with reports that the government was about to offer an amnesty to Islamist insurgents Boko Haram, on 28 May President Goodluck Jonathan vowed again on national TV to wage 'total war' against 'international terrorism'. Earlier that week, civic activists in northern Nigeria told journalists that they had been negotiating with Boko Haram representatives to free some of the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped from Chibok in Borno State on 14 April (AC Vol 55 No 10.
