As the regime starts election campaigning, opposition parties boycott en masse and plan for political change

As President Omer Hassan Ahmed el Beshir launched his re-election campaign at Merrikh football stadium in Omdurman on 24 February, police were breaking up protests across the Nile in Khartoum against the killing of a woman by one of their fellow officers in January. Meanwhile, the Sudan Call Forces, as the opposition alliance now calls itself, were preparing to meet in Berlin on 24-27 February at the invitation of the German government.
