Contractor controversy

Local contractors' frustration with the Chinese success story is growing

After a spate of high-profile contract awards, local contractors are accusing their Chinese competitors of using political influence and state subsidies from Beijing to dominate Zambia’s construction market. Zambia’s National Housing Bond Trust (NHBT) awarded a contract to Yangtze Jiang, China Jiangxi Construction Company and Sichuan International Technical Corporation to build houses on a pilot housing project. About 200 Chinese companies operate across Zambia’s growing economy.
